Flowering tree native to tropical America but now widespread throughout the tropics. The lyrical common name is derived from an Italian noble family that created a perfume from the blooms.

Blooms early spring to late fall: yellow, red, pink, white and mixed hues.
Blooms are fragrant at dusk to attract pollinating moths.

Perfect as a background or specimen tree, especially at maturity. Frame with evergreen or flowering shrubbery or palms to soften the bare branches during winter. High salt tolerance makes it perfect for coastal gardens. Feed with a slow-release 14-14-14 granular fertilizer at end of winter and then every 3 months until late summer. Yellow and orange rust spots on the foliage in late summer are endemic and untreatable.
