Ornamental grass native to beach dunes ranging from Virginia to Florida, around the Gulf to Mexico, and as far south as Cuba. Wild sea oats are protected in beach dunes: seeds or plants cannot be removed.

Yellow-brown seed heads on 6 ft spikelets from spring to fall
Seed heads provide pollen for insects and seeds are eaten by birds and beach mice
Tolerates full salt water at roots
