Uniola paniculata

Sea Oats

Ornamental grass native to beach dunes ranging from Virginia to Florida, around the Gulf to Mexico, and as far south as Cuba. Wild sea oats are protected in beach dunes: seeds or plants cannot be removed.

  • Yellow-brown seed heads on 6 ft spikelets from spring to fall
  • Seed heads provide pollen for insects and seeds are eaten by birds and beach mice
  • Tolerates full salt water at roots
