Gardenia needs an acidic soil to thrive so place at least six feet away from house to avoid alkaline leaching from house foundation. Feed with slow release granular fertilizer specifically for Azalea, Camilla and Gardenia every three months. A hard cutback in mid-summer after blooms are done will promote new and healthy growth for next season's bloom cycle.
