Evergreen flowering shrub native to coastal areas of Eastern Cape and Natal, South Africa, where the fruit is used in jams and pies as we would with cherries or apples. Both Natal Plum and Emerald Blanket cultivars are available.

Ideal as a medium-height groundcover or low dense hedge, especially along coastal gardens where a high salt-tolerant plant is needed. Feed with a slow-release 14-14-14 granular fertilizer every three months. Water sparingly once established after about 6-9 months. Overwatering can cause fungus to spread in foliage.
