Barleria - Philippine Violet

Woody perennial native to Myanmar and India. It's a relative of the Ruellia Purple Showers (aka Mexican Petunia) but unlike its pesky relative, it will not seed and become an unwelcome plant that's difficult to remove. Blooms year-round, especially in spring and early summer.

For the wildlife garden: mix in with Firebush, Hibiscus, Salvias, Fire Spike and Milkweed. Feed with a slow-release 14 14 14 granular fertilizer every three months. Prune back by half in late March to encourage robust growth in spring and summer. Protect from extended periods of temperatures below mid 40’s.
